Feature: Architectural Digest | Hutker Architects

I’m thrilled to share that my photograph of Hutker Architects’ Sunset Hill project has been featured in Architectural Digest. Perched atop one of Martha’s Vineyard’s highest elevations, this residence exemplifies seamless indoor-outdoor living. Hutker Architects designed the home to harmonize with the island’s dynamic light and panoramic vistas, making it a captivating subject to capture.
Photographing this structure was an exercise in timing and perspective. From the gentle morning fog enveloping the landscape to the vibrant hues of sunset, each moment offered a unique interplay between the architecture and its natural surroundings. The home’s design features curving, zinc-coated roofs that nestle into the hillside, and flat-roof connectors clad in Shou-Sugi Ban, creating a dynamic series of interior and exterior spaces. Inside, a great room is framed by granite boulder walls, grounding the space amidst expansive views of the island’s south shore, Noman’s Island, and the Aquinnah cliffs. A central courtyard with a plunge pool centers outdoor gatherings on these breathtaking views.

For me, architectural photography transcends capturing mere structures; it’s about conveying the essence of a space and its relationship with the environment. I’m grateful for the opportunity to document this project and share the story it tells through design and nature.
